An opportunity to directly help children in the villages surrounding Sapa, Northern Vietnam
Sapa in North Vietnam is a place of great scenic beauty and cultural diversity. But it is also a place of comparative poverty. It is estimated that a third of rural children are stunted from malnutrition and lack access to the health, education and welfare improvements enjoyed in urban areas of Vietnam.
With the help of small cash donations from Australian's and others I have provided warm clothing and food directly to hundreds of the most needy in these communities each year since 2014. I pay all my own expenses and ensure that at least 85% of the money raised goes directly to the children, the balance being spent on essential items such as transportation of goods. To date I have raised over $20,000 AUD to enable these projects to take place.
I am currently appealing for donations to pay for the transport of 30 hospital beds and mattresses from Melbourne Australia to Tuong Duong District Healthcare Service Center in Nghe An province (one of the poorest 64 districts in Vietnam). I have obtained the beds for free and simply need to raise approximately $4,000 AUD to cover the cost of shipping to Vietnam. The project is scheduled for this year and any donations will be greatly appreciated.
